Pope's Prayer Intentions for 2022

The monthly prayer intentions of the Holy Father for 2022 have been published by the Vatican. The prayer intentions are entrusted to the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, which Pope Francis officially established as a pontifical work on 17 November 2020.

The Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network is a pontifical work with the mission of mobilizing Catholics through prayer and action, in the face of the challenges confronting humanity and the mission of the Church. These challenges are addressed in the form of prayer intentions entrusted by the Pope to the entire Church. Its mission is inscribed in the dynamic of the Heart of Jesus: a mission of compassion for the world.

Pope Francis' prayer intention for September 2022: for the abolition of the death penalty.

In his prayer intention for September, Pope Francis calls on all people of good will “to mobilize for the abolition of the death penalty throughout the world".

Pope Francis' prayer intention for August 2022: for small businesses.

"Let us pray for small and medium-sized businesses, hard hit by the economic and social crisis, so they may find ways to continue operating, and serving their communities."

Pope Francis’ prayer intention for July 2022: for the elderly.

Pope Francis urges everyone to pray for the elderly, so that they may be “teachers of tenderness”.

Pope Francis’ prayer intention for June 2022: for families.
As the Church prepares to gather in Rome from 22–26 June for the 10th World Meeting of Families, Pope Francis upheld the family and urged all Catholics to pray for them.
"The family is the place where we learn to live with one another, to live with young people and with those who are older. And by being united in our differences—young people, the elderly, adults, children—we evangelize with our example of life.”

Pope Francis’ prayer intention for May 2022: for faith-filled young people.
Pope Francis urges everyone to pray for young Catholics to be courageous in their response to God’s call.

Pope Francis’ prayer intention for April 2022: for health-care workers.
The Pope asks Christians to pray for health care workers and urges governments to prioritize making good healthcare accessible to all.

Pope Francis’ prayer intention for March 2022: For a Christian response to bioethical challenges.
We pray for Christians facing new bioethical challenges; may they continue to defend the dignity of all human life with prayer and action.

Pope Francis’ prayer intention for February 2022: For consecrated women.
"What would the Church be without religious sisters and consecrated laywomen? The Church cannot be understood without them."
“I exhort them to keep working and to have an impact with the poor, with the marginalized, with all those who are enslaved by traffickers,” he said. “I especially ask them to make an impact on this.”

Pope Francis' prayer intention for January 2022: For true human fraternity.
We pray for all those suffering from religious discrimination and persecution; may their own rights and dignity be recognized, which originate from being brothers and sisters in the human family.
