Examining Language, Terminology and Representation in Ireland's 'Mother and Baby Homes', 'County Homes' and Related Institutions:
INVITATION TO CONTRIBUTE
The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth has sponsored this NUI Galway project, through the Irish Research Council.
The project is tasked with examining and highlighting stigmatising language and terminology encountered by survivors and former residents of the Mother and Baby and County Homes, and related institutions.
As a core part of the project, NUI Galway is holding public consultations, and invite those who wish to take part to contact them directly to make arrangements to contribute to the research.
This project is one of the initiatives within the programme of education and research in Government’s Action Plan for Survivors and Former Residents of Mother and Baby and County Home Institutions.
PROJECT AIMS
• To highlight stigmatizing and labelling language used in the past.
• To provide guidance on acceptable language to be used in future.
• The identify how language has been used to label people and influence attitudes.
Have your say in this discussion by consulting with the research team in a virtual meeting, by phone, in-person consultation or with a written submission.
