Pope Francis calls Catholics everywhere to prayer and action in the face of climate change and the biodiversity crisis. Our diocesan Laudato Si’ launch event coincides with the start of COP26 (2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference). Let us come together to pray for the success of COP26, that world leaders will listen to the reality of people living through the effects of climate change.

This event is the launch of a sustained programme of liturgy, education, and action in response to the challenges of Laudato Si’. We are asking for a collective response and commitment from Catholics in this diocese to truly hear the ‘Cry of the Earth’ and the ‘Cry of the Poor’. Guided by scripture and Pope Francis’ encyclical, we hope to encourage parish groups to develop an ecological spirituality, from which will grow the inspiration for action in protecting planet earth and those most vulnerable in it.

Our service was enhanced by the presence of Eco Congregation Ireland's Climate Justice Candle (www.ecocongregationireland.com/shine-a-light-on-climate-justice), which is available for parishes around the country to host.
